Name that anime
I was just playing name that anime with Scott Kovacs and he pulled out a bunch that I had never heard of.
It turns out that the ones he was listing were all played on north american TV which is how he had heard of them and i hadn't. It was a quite a relief actually, as I was worried that somehow I had fallen out of the anime loop.
Thankfully he seems to been suggesting all young (and I mean under 12) boy's anime of the sort I don't watch anyway. The same pool of material that Pokemon comes from in effect.
Thus I didn't know, Bakuto Sengen Daigunder, battle b'daman, mon kole knights, Zatch ball or IGPX.
That last one, IGPX isn't even Japanese in origin, it just looks it from the style of animation.
and not one of them has a complex love triangle with more then 2 people, serious lasting combat (most are to knockout or surrender) or any interesting and complex plot. (I say all that without actually having seen any of them, but from the plot summary and episode titles I have a feeling i could write out the main events each episode)
In fact, it got me thinking here. One female character, unless she is the main character, isn't really a love interest more a plot device. It takes two, and the possiblity of one lossing to the other, before they should be thought of as love interests. One girl will be kidnapped and the like and the hero will come to save her, but if there are two, then the second girl has to feel hurt and question whether or not the hero would come for her. (Fruits basket even follows this rule, and the girl was suppost to be the main character -- she was the only one who didn't have any real character growth in the series so I don't think she truly was the main character but that's another matter)
There is a lot of anime out there that I haven't seen for one reason or another. Some is material that isn't translated into english (this is usually the really bad stuff that even die hard fans don't like). Some is material that is of a type I don't enjoy: Exploding eyeball anime, Octoplus love doll anime, young girl anime or young boy. I say that, but I look at my wall and I see more young girl style anime then young boy even... Nanaka 6/17 is for teens I would say, so perhaps not young girls, but I have more that fits that catagory then I have things like Mystic Ninja.
I seem to be drawn to works that have 6 sided love triangles with a twist in the form of magic/aliens/robots or all of the above. hmmm
then again... I do have steam detectvies the anime isn't as good as the manga so it is for a young crowd.
And I have Shaman King, Inu Yasha and even Ranma...
Maybe I can't quite say that. (that I have more Shoujo then Shounen, as I have the kenshin series too...)
Hmm...
I wonder what my collection will look like in 10 years time?
